SELFOIL Self-lubricated Sintered Bearings

Applications

The SELFOIL Self-lubricated Sintered Bearings® they are porous metal components of bronze or iron, impregnated with lubricating oil. The oil contained within the bearing constantly provides lubrication between the bearing and the shaft, thereby The system does not need additional lubricant.

Recommendations for use

Keep SELFOIL® bearings in their original packaging until assembly.

 

  • Avoid putting the bearings in contact with absorbent materials (cardboard, paper, cloth, etc.).
  • Handle the bearings preventing them from hitting.
  • The reuse of disassembled bearings is strongly discouraged
  • Ask us if the bearing should work in contact with oxidizing liquids or gases.

Type A Cylindrical

Suitable when the bearing works under radial load, without axial load or with very low axial load.

631 standard measures:
- Inner diameter from 2 mm to 100 mm
- Outside diameter from 5 mm to 120 mm
- Length from 2 mm to 120 mm

Type B Cylindrical with Walloon

Suitable when the bearing works under axial load, with or without radial load. The wall is used to absorb the axial load.

137 standard measures:
- Inner diameter from 3 mm to 60 mm
- Outside diameter from 6 mm to 70 mm
- Length from 4 mm to 60 mm

Spherical type C

Suitable when the bearing is running, or when the bearing must absorb shaft misalignments.

SELFOIL® bearing calculation

With the pressure and speed data, it is a matter of placing both parameters in the following abacus that we show in the image, and verifying that SELFOIL® is a valid option for your system.

Example 1

Calculation of the maximum permissible load of a SELFOIL bearing®

 

Data: A shaft-bearing system works at a shaft rotation speed of 800 rpm. What is the maximum load that a SELFOll-n bearing with an inner diameter of 20 mm and a length of 25 mm supports?

 

Solution: The shaft diameter is considered to be the same as the inner diameter of the bearing. In the abacus pressure / speed, we place the speed of 800 rpm and the shaft diameter of 20 mm. A maximum working pressure of 3.0 MPa is obtained. Then the projected area S? L? 20 mm 25 mm 500 mrn². Finally, since the pressure is P z F / S, transforming the formula, is the FPS 3.0 MPa load obtained? 500 mrry z 1,500 N. The maximum permissible load will therefore be 1,500 N (approximately 150 Kg).

Example 2

Calculation of the minimum length of a SELFOlL bearing®

 

Data: A shaft-bearing system works with a 20 mm diameter shaft that rotates at a speed of 600 rpm, and under a load of 1,500 N. What should be the minimum length of a SELFOIL bearing?® to work properly in these conditions?

 

Solution: In the abacus pressure / speed, we place the speed of 600 rpm and the diameter of the axis of 20 mm. A maximum working pressure of 4.0 MPa is obtained. Since the pressure is P = F / S, transforming the formula, the projected area S = F / P = 1,500 N / 4.0 MPa = 375 mm² is calculated. Considering that the diameter of the shaft is the same as the inner diameter of the bearing, the projected surface being S = Øint · L, the bearing length is calculated as L = S / Øint = 375 mm² / 20 mm = 18.75 mm. The minimum necessary length will therefore be 18.75 mm.
